What happens when you hit middle age and realize you never really figured things out? A Precarious Midlife Crisis is the sound of that moment—equal parts reflection, frustration, and momentum. It’s not a nostalgia trip, though the echoes of 80s synth-pop and 90s alternative are undeniable. Instead, it’s a confrontation: What if everything that shaped you never really left? What if it still matters?
Written, performed, and produced almost entirely by Tory World, the album moves between shimmering pop melodies and raw, unfiltered emotion, offering a soundtrack for anyone who grew up with Saturday morning cartoons, too much sugar, too little supervision, and the nagging feeling that something was missing. It was recorded both at home and, fittingly, in a recording studio inside a mental institution, where Tory works as a Music and Audio Program Coordinator.
From the pulsing urgency of “New Start” to the gritty introspection of “Casino Jam,” every track on A Precarious Midlife Crisis is designed as a Rorschach test—some will hear New Order, others will hear Prince, some will swear it’s Ready for the World. That’s the point.
This isn’t a reinvention or a farewell. It’s a real attempt at making something that lasts.
